Construction Update

Stage 1 civil works have been progressing well, only losing a few days out on site due to bad weather.

Internal drainage works are now well underway and are due for completion in mid-October. In conjunction with these drainage works there has been additional lot levelling and other associated bulk-earthworks activities undertaken.

With improving Spring weather conditions, we expect work progress to be expedited and for construction to remain on-track to achieve our Stage 1 completion date in January 2016.

House Designs

This month we are delighted to feature the home design for lot 32. The words and images come from the architect, Steffen Welsch of Steffen Welsch Architects. The Mullum Creek team would like to thank both Steffen and the owners of lot 32 for allowing us to showcase this beautiful home.

Mullum Creek is a rare opportunity to be part of something special: a new way of living that brings nature and community together in a greener, healthier place to live – just 20 minutes from the CBD.

We’re working with a family who purchased a Stage 1 lot. Our cost efficient 7.5 star design solution pushes the envelope with innovative eco materials, like rammed earth and recycled concrete, and is firmly rooted in sustainable design principles.

We feel the design for this home is exceptional because it’s in tune with the Mullum landscape while bringing the family closer to nature. Bushland sightlines are maximised, while solar access will keep the home cool in summer and warm in winter, and bathed in natural light year-round. With rooms arranged around a striking central courtyard, cross ventilation draws fresh air and natural breezes through the home, while the home itself ‘meanders’ down the natural contours, defining different spatial experiences and a contemporary undulating roof scape.

Because Mullum Creek is also about community, we’re creating a neighbourly home that respects and engages its street frontage, and provides seamless access to the natural reserves and creek. But we’re also sensitive to privacy for the family. While the family can entertain on the generous sun-drenched deck off the open-plan living and dining rooms, they can also seek shade and privacy in their leafy internal courtyard.

Together with the family we’ve worked as a team through the specific Mullum Creek design guidelines, design schemes and contract administration for this project. And now we’re just months from turning the first sod for this lovely new home. Being able to work together on a sustainable, cost-efficient home for ‘country living in the city’ has been and continues to be a joy.

Wildflower Walk at Willis Nature Park
