Materials and health

The design of a healthy home aims to eliminate harmful chemicals. Toxic off-gassing is a risk unless engineered wood products, bulk insulations, floor coverings, adhesives, sealants and paints are carefully selected. For example:

  • Bulk insulation should have zero formaldehyde emissions or be third-party GreenTag/GECA certified.
  • Manufactured wood products should have low formaldehyde emissions to E0 standard (≤0.5mg/L or 0.041ppm) under AS 2098.11 and AS 4266.16.
